Toy Mountain returns to Downtown Markham December 17

Toy Mountain at Downtown Markham

For the third year in a row, The Remington Group is proud to host the CTV Toy Mountain Campaign at the Pride of Canada Carousel in Downtown Markham.

On Tuesday, December 17, CTV and Toy Mountain host Tom Brown will broadcast live from the Pride of Canada Carousel at 8080 Birchmount Road in Downtown Markham. Organizations from throughout the Markham area will on hand to present toys and financial donations to Toy Mountain, and City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti will also be in attendance.

The event runs from 5-8 pm, and will be broadcast live on CTV News at Six between 6-7 pm.

It’s expected that the Markham Skating Club, Parkview Public School Drum Band and Markham Fire Department will attend the event as well. The skating rink will be in operation, depending on the weather. BeaverTails will be graciously giving away pastries to the first 200 in attendance, and there will be hot chocolate available from Longo’s to warm chilly hands and bellies.

The 2019 campaign marks the 24th anniversary of Toy Mountain, benefitting the Salvation Army. Each year, Toronto-area schools, community groups and local organizations band together at Christmastime to create a mountain of toys for babies, children and teens throughout the GTA who otherwise would go without.

In 2018, Toy Mountain collected 152,766 toys, and has a goal of 150,000 toys for 2019.

During the 2018 broadcast from the Pride of Canada Carousel, a very special guest joined in the fun – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with attendees, talked with Brown, did some impromptu conducting with the Markham District High School Wind Symphony and provided a number of toys to the cause.

“It’s important to remind everyone that as we do our Christmas shopping, as we think about our families, we have to think about the families that need a little extra help for this time in the holidays,” Trudeau said during the event. “We want to make sure kids have the best possible Christmas right across the country.”

Anyone who wants to participate in the Toy Mountain initiative can simply donate a new, unwrapped toy to any Toy Mountain bin at local malls, Toronto Area Ford dealers or any location listed on the CTV News Toronto Toy Mountain website. They can also bring toys with them to the live event at the Carousel!

Community Groups who want to participate are invited to fill out a Toy Mountain Tag Registration form and deliver the toys they have collected at the event on Dec. 17. The Salvation Army can also arrange pick-up for toy drives that accumulate over 100 toys. For information about involvement in the campaign, organizations are encouraged to visit the Salvation Army’s Toy Mountain website.

According to organizers, over 30,000 families throughout the GTA received toys through the 2018 Toy Mountain Campaign.
